Life Update: We are engaged!
On Februrary 6th 2021 Navi popped the question and we got engaged in St. Peter-Ording at the seaside of Germany. Side note: This was the northernmost spot that Navi has ever been to — he is truly becoming a ‚Nordlicht‘ by now.
Here comes some lines to share the experience of this special day in our lives.
First, the background story to this day: Navi was really keen on going to the coast for a day. I did not see any unusual signs in this as I was happy to go there because, you know, it is always a nice experience at the coast. Well, Navi was obviously already planning ahead with by best friend, Jana, and asked me whether I wanted to ask Jana if she joins us. on our coast trip. As you can imagine, I felt perfectly good organizing this day at the coast with these two and when Jana answered that we was happy to come, I still did not assume anything.
On this day, Navi sent me to the bakery shop to get some food for the trip. He actually sent me there because he needed to change in his clothes for the proposal. When I came back, he was already changed with more layers on top of it, so I did not see anything. I remember how we were getting ready in the morning and I was annoying Navi for only putting a thin jacked on instead of a second layer, as it was freezing and super windy at the coast. Little did I know, that he was wearing four layers below this jacked with his proposal outfit. I guess he was just laughing inside of him and waiting for me to let that outfit topic go. Then we left home and went to pick up Jana. Later she told me that he had to fight with herself not smiling the entire ride to St. Peter-Ording as she knew what was about to happen.
Getting to St. Peter-Ording, the weather at the seaside decided to be typically northern with extreme winds that made your face and hands freeze after a couple of minutes. We walked along the coastline, had some sandwiches and tea (it was so cold!) and just enjoyed the beach as hardly anyone was there that day. It was like we had our private beach. After some time, we decided to head back towards the direction where we were coming from and walked into the dunes. By then, Jana had given Navi a sign with her hands to finally ask the question. While we were walking there, Navi came to me and said that he had a small surprise for me (I want to underline the word SMALL, that he was using the day before as well) and told me about the posts that he prepared on this blog. I was so happy about everything that he wrote down there, capturing all our moments together and while going through them, he asked me not to turn around. After a short moment, I heard the sound of music. And not just any music. It was a really special song, ‚ocean‘, and my heart felt like it stopped for a second. Then Navi turned me around and there I saw him in his proposal outfit! I was overwhelmed with everything that just happened and was fighting with tears, while still telling myself ’stay cool, stay cool, don’t cry‘. And then there was this magical and special moment of ours, in the middle of the dunes at the northern sea of Germany.
Navi looked me in the eyes and said that he had to come to the northernmost spot that he has ever been to to do this. He said that he loved me and asked me whether I was ready. My heart was racing, he kneed down and asked me whether I wanted to marry him three times. This has always been our personal joke, as we are not only celebrating our marriage once, but three times including civil, traditional tamil and big celebration wedding with a ceremony where all our friends could join us. It goes without saying that I SAID YES! Besides that, I was hysterically laughing and smiling and still filled with all those emotions of that moment.
Afterwards we headed to Hamburg to take some pictures together and drove to my parents to raise a glass of sparkling wine to our engagement. Everyone was really happy and celebrated with us.
I am marrying my best friend, life partner and the most incredible person I know. This day was magical and a special moment that makes me smile every time I am reliving it in my memories.
